From the Startup Circle News from PDEC Startup Circle companies, projects, and products. We’ve reported on the implementation of a new standard, deployment of a new API, and the opening of a beta testing program.
Standards, Protocols, and Open Source News focusing on expert communities leading development of the technologies for online identity, personal data, and similar topics within PDEC’s scope. For example, progress in the creation of a standard, the formation of a new working group, or significant deployment of specific technologies might be covered. This section will include reports from PDEC’s ongoing research, funded by ISOC, to document technologies being used throughout the personal data ecosystem.
Articles and Interviews Each issue’s feature article will focus on a topic relevant to stakeholders across the personal data ecosystem. Themes we anticipate covering with feature-length articles in coming months include:

  • Discovery: An overview of the different types of discovery (e.g., service discovery from an identifier, discovery of personal RFPs by vendors, people discovery, discovery of personal data) as well as available technologies for performing discovery (e.g. Hammer stack, XRI resolution, Simple Web Discovery).
  • Privacy: How the concept of privacy is currently understood; technologies for privacy, access control, permissioning, capabilities (e.g. OAuth, UMA, XDI Link Contracts).
  • Authentication: What exists beyond username/password? What do the concepts of IdP and RP mean in a PDE, and more.
  • Ontologies and Schemas: All the different ways of expressing personal data (e.g., first name, last name, email address), an overview of the available technologies (e.g. RDF Schema, XDI dictionary), and possible ways of achieving interoperability.
