Walking in the Cloud @ SXSW

Cloud Identity session @ SXSW 2013

Join Gluu CEO & Founder Mike Schwartz for an official SXSW meetup and discussion on current Internet standards for identity from the IETF and other relevant organizations, including OAuth2 and OpenID Connect. [Editor: Gluu is in PDEC’s Startup Circle.]

Also learn about adoption trends and market predictions for both consumer and enterprise identity.

These quick predictions will serve as launching point for the meetup to break into small groups for five minutes lightning rounds to discuss one of the suggested topics.

As governments, corporate agencies and social networking giants grab, analyze and share bits and pieces of your real-life and digital self, what are you going to do about it? Will you even be able to keep up with the high demand and multitude of locations that require secure sign on? Do you even want to? Today at SXSW, a group met at the Driskill to discuss cloud ID.

Who has access to what and to do what with the (your) information? Single sign on is a reality for some of the companies (Ping Identity, Janrain) but what can, should, might a standard OpenID Authentication look like and what should be the driving force behind the move to get a standardization into play?

While more questions were generated than answers, the discussion never lagged, moving across government, social, insurgent and big company spaces with ease.

Fractal” and “fragmented” were often used when discussing the next layer to address with ID authentication: what databits could a user decide to share with one or more entities and what would that look under the Authenticated ID sign on?

A few things must be kept in mind while working with these questions. Anything designed needs to be: easy for user, easy for organization, and scaleable. “Ttrust” still needs to be defined. And meetups need to continue working toward standardizing the path of securing your ID on the web….. in one stop.

Rumor has it that Ted has a Birch Paper where Dr. Who‘s Psychic Paper brings more of this issue to light. Will be heading there as soon as SXSW lets me.
