What is ‘The right to be forgotten’ online?

Here at ALLOW, we’ve been working hard to ensure that our services are continually making people’s data work for them.

We were therefore really encouraged to hear the comments made by EU Justice Commissioner – Viviane Reding – stating that legislation will be introduced in the coming months to improve your rights in these key areas. (For the full story, covered expertly by the good people at the Guardian, click here)

We think it’s fantastic that key regulatory bodies are working to similar overall goals as us when it comes to increasing the control people have over their data.

Some quotes in particular got our interest: –

“I want to explicitly clarify that people shall have the right – and not only the possibility – to withdraw their consent to data processing” she said.

“The burden of proof should be on data controllers, they must prove that they need to keep the data” – music to our ears.

We love the idea of an individual’s “right to be forgotten” – what a wonderful phrase!

ALLOW’s services actually enable users to withdraw their personal information from the consumer data marketplace. It’s awesome to be able to say that we’re on the right track and fighting on behalf of the consumer.

To find out how ALLOW can give you control over your data and enable you to opt out of unwanted advertising, click here to take advantage of our free, self-explanatory sign up process. You can find out about our services whilst gaining access to your own personal ALLOW account with just a few clicks.

We’d like to think that we can continue to shed light on the problems associated with marketing and data collection practices worldwide. We’d also like to thank everyone who has been using our services over the past few months and particularly those of you who have been spreading the word.

We’re not ones to rest on our laurels though; it’s a long road ahead and we hope that you’re excited about continuing with us towards our greater goal of a more transparent and consumer-friendly data market.

Kind thanks,

The ALLOW team
