We just had a phenomenal May edition of #PDNYC and we’re back already to announce an even better June installment of the best Personal Data meetup in NYC. We’ve had great turnout at each event, and we want to keep the momentum going, so get the word out to your friends and colleagues to come out.

Tuesday, June 18th, come join us for DEMO DAY at #PDNYC. We’ve got 3 amazing companies on deck to show off their goods: fleisure, Abine and Hitbliss. Please see below for a more detailed look at each great company.

fleisure:
fleisure helps you bookmark the things you want to do with your free time — movies to see, books to read, restaurants to try, places to visit, and more. Currently in private beta (web/iOS apps)

Abine:
We think the web is a whole lot better when people get to choose how their data is collected and used. Since its launch, Abine has emerged as the online privacy leader. And now that we’re on a roll, we’ve recruited a team committed to giving our users a more private web experience. Our engineers are building the next generation of web tools, our marketing and press teams are advocates for change, and our support and operations staff go beyond service to provide daily advice to those navigating the complexities of online privacy. Abine is driving the online privacy industry and bringing solutions to millions around the globe

Hitbliss:
From the early days of television to the age of Hulu, viewers have always complained about all the annoying commercials that interrupted their favorite shows. Now a Lexington, MA start-up is turning that strained relationship between viewers and commercials on its head. With HitBliss, users opt in to receive targeted advertising without giving up their privacy. In exchange for their time and attention to ads, they earn cash credit that can be applied to pay for TV shows and movies. Viewers can use the credit they earn to buy TV shows and rent popular movies from the company. “This is radically different than anything people have ever seen before,” said Sharon Peyer, cofounder and vice president of the company, which launched a test version of its product this month. “In exchange for watching advertisements, the consumer essentially gets compensated for their time and attention.”
